Retirement Party Ideas - Let the Celebrations Begin

May 4, 2007 by sachinskg

There is no one better to organize a retirement party than the person who is actually retiring. With the help of a few friends and relatives, you can put yourself in charge of the organizing committee and swing into motion.

You are going to be the life of the party so, if you want everything to be just right on the night, you should take the lead when it comes to organizing the show. Remember, the party is a celebration of life and not the somber marking of retirement. It is important to believe that retirement means only the beginning and this should be reflected in your party.

The first aspect you need to decide on is the theme of your party. You can choose whatever you want. It might be a good idea to base the theme on your career. How did your job shape you as a person and how are you going to transfer that culture into a party atmosphere?

You could base your party theme on the place you live, your hobbies or even where or how you plan to spend your retirement.

Food is also an important factor. Again, the food you choose could follow the overall theme of the party but at the same time you have to be sympathetic to the needs of your guests, who may not share the same tastes. Yes, the party is in your honor but you want everyone to have a good time. And that means deciding on a great menu.

Music is another important factor to make your party successful. Again, consider the kinds of guests you hope to invite and organize the music accordingly. You might even consider hiring a professional disc jockey and discuss with him what would be the most appropriate music.

Venue is also important. Ideally, you would like to host the party at your house. However, you must ensure that your home can cater to the numbers involved. If you want to invite many people and you don’t have enough room at home, you may want to switch venues or limit your invitation list.

Just before the party starts, though, hand over organizing duties to a trusted friend or relative. That is because this is your party and you should enjoy it. Minor hiccups that someone else can deal with should not bother you. It is your retirement and your retirement party. So make the most of it.
